Somvar (Monday) Vrat Katha

**The Story:**

In a certain city lived a wealthy merchant who had everything except a son. Grief-stricken, he began observing the Somvar vrat — fasting every Monday and praying to Shiva at the temple.

Parvati observed his devotion and spoke to Shiva: "Grant him a son." Shiva agreed but said: "His son will live only 12 years."

A son was born. When the boy turned 11, the merchant sent him to Kashi for studies with his uncle. On the way, the uncle stopped at a wedding ceremony. The princess-bride's promised groom was blind. Wanting to save the wedding, the family swapped in the merchant\'s young nephew.

After the ceremony, in secret, the boy told the princess of the deception. Impressed by his honesty, she accepted her fate. He resumed his journey to Kashi.

At his 12th year, on Somvar, he died — as Shiva\'s decree required.

His uncle grieved. Shiva and Parvati passed by. Parvati wept for the youth. Moved, Shiva restored the boy to life.

On his return, the boy\'s parents recognized him. The princess also returned to marry him properly. The family lived long and happily.

**Fruit:** Whoever observes Monday vrat with devotion, hears this katha, and worships Shiva receives Shiva\'s blessings for the fulfillment of any desire — especially children, marriage, and health.
