Children in Vedic astrology are governed by the 5th house (santaan bhava), Jupiter (the natural karaka of children), and — for advanced timing — the Saptamsa D7 divisional chart which is specifically dedicated to children. Fertility issues, timing of first-born, gender of children, and number of children are all read from these three sources together. The most common childbirth timing signature is: the running mahadasha or antardasha of the 5th lord, combined with Jupiter transiting the 5th or 9th house from your natal Moon. When both partners' charts show favourable 5th house activity simultaneously, conception typically follows within 12 months.
