Devuthani Ekadashi (literally "the Ekadashi when the Devs awaken") marks the end of the 4-month Chaturmasa period when Lord Vishnu is believed to sleep on his serpent bed Shesha. On this day, He awakens and the auspicious season of weddings, house-warmings, and new ventures resumes. The day is closely tied to Tulsi Vivah — the ceremonial marriage of Tulsi to Shaligram (Vishnu), typically performed the next day.
🔔 Puja Vidhi
- Wake before sunrise, bathe, decorate the house with rangoli
- Perform Vishnu puja with Tulsi leaves and sugarcane offerings
- Recite the Devuthani mantra: "Uthishtho Deva! Uthishthapi Deva!"
- Light diyas in courtyard, tulsi vrindavan, and at the main door
- Prepare a Tulsi Vivah ceremony for the next day using a Shaligram or Vishnu idol
📜 Rules
- Ekadashi fast norms apply (no grains, beans, honey)
- Sugarcane offerings are traditional (symbolic of the new harvest)
- Weddings postponed during Chaturmasa are now scheduled from this day onwards
