Ekadashi Vrat

Ekadashi is the 11th tithi of each lunar fortnight and is considered the most spiritually potent fasting day dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Observing 24 Ekadashis in a year is believed to purify the soul and grant Vaikuntha (Vishnu's abode). Each Ekadashi has its own name and specific benefit — from Vaikuntha Ekadashi (liberation from the cycle of birth) to Nirjala Ekadashi (equivalent merit of all 24 in one day). The fast begins at sunrise on Ekadashi and is broken during Dwadashi Parana window on the next day.

🔔 Puja Vidhi

  1. Wake before sunrise, bathe, wear clean cotton clothes
  2. Perform Vishnu puja: offer Tulsi leaves, yellow flowers, panchamrit, and light diya
  3. Recite Vishnu Sahasranama or Bhagavad Gita chapter 15
  4. Observe complete fast (or fruit-only fast for beginners)
  5. Break fast next day during Parana window with rice, dal, and green vegetables

📜 Rules

  • No grains, beans, honey, or non-vegetarian food
  • Nirjala (waterless) form is only for advanced practitioners; regular Ekadashi allows water and fruits
  • Sleep on the floor if possible; refrain from anger and negative speech
  • Break fast within the Parana window (specific 2-hour timing next morning)
