Hartalika Teej is a rigorous 24-hour nirjala fast dedicated to Shiva-Parvati. Legend: Parvati's friend "abducted" (haran) her to prevent her forced marriage to Vishnu; she then performed intense tapas that finally won Shiva as her husband. Unmarried women observe Hartalika Teej for a good husband; married women for husband's long life and marital happiness. One of the strictest woman-observed vrats.
🔔 Puja Vidhi
- Complete nirjala fast for 24 hours
- Prepare Shiva-Parvati clay idols; do abhishek and ornamentation
- Recite Hartalika Teej Katha at night
- Continuous jagran through the night
- Break fast next morning after Hartalika Visarjan
📜 Rules
- Nirjala means NO water AND no food for the full 24 hours
- Night jagran mandatory — no sleeping
- Not to be broken under any circumstance once started
